A normal day at an american high school

Introduction: I want to tell you about an American High School. I chose this topic because the most films I watch play in America, so this life is very interesting for me. There are so many differences between German and American life and I wanted to know which they are. Especially I would like to know more about the teenager's life. That's why I chose the topic: A normal day at an American High School.   My presentation is made up of 5 parts.

In the first part I will describe an American High School. Then I would like to go on with the Timetables and Lessons. After that I tell you something about the School bus in America. And then I speak about the clubs and the physical education. Finally I tell you something about the differences between German and American Schools.   Description of an American High School: An American High School is a school for all kids who are 14 or older.

There isn't a division in Gymnasium, Realschule or Hauptschule. Here are two pictures of the American High School. At the first two years the kids go to the Junior High School, there is the 9th class, called freshmen and the 10th class, called sophomore. After that the kids go to the senior high school. In the 11th class they are juniors and the 12th class, called seniors. In every class there are 28-33 pupils.

Each pupil has its own locker to keep their school things. Only the teachers have an own class room, they don't have to change it after every lesson, but the pupils have to. An American High School is bigger than a German School because the school presents the city and it's the centre of the public life. The Venice High School in L.A have....

but that's not all, other schools have librarys, fitness rooms, football stadiums, music halls or basketball stadiums. To finance this the school needs donation from the businesses in the town.   Timetable/Lessons: Now, I tell you something about the Timetables and Lessons. Here are a timetable. The school day begins at 8o'clock and ends at quarter to 3. Every morning before the school starts, the pupils say the Pledge of Allegiance.

The school year begins in August and ends in June. At the beginning of the school year, every pupil chooses 12 courses. There are more then 100 to choose, par example an history, art or math course. One day the pupils have the first 6 courses (the Blue Day) and the next day, they have the next 6 courses (the Golden Day). It's the same every week. Some lessons or courses last 90 min and some only 45 min.

There isn't a big break, only a lunch break which lasts about 30 minutes. The pupils have to take exams at the end of the school year, that means that they have to know everything from the last semester. There are two semesters each school year.   School bus:   In America all schools have school busses; they take every pupil to school. Here's a picture of an American School bus.The Americans need school busses, because in small cities there are only a few bus lines and railways.

School busses are free, they don't cost anything. But in America every family have two or more cars and the kids always use them. Especially the 16 or 17 years old pupils want to buy their own cars; nobody likes to drive with the school bus.     The Clubs and physical education are very important for the Americans, so I tell you something about them:   After school most of the pupils don't leave school. Because on every High School pupils have the chance to go in a club like a latin club, an art club or a chess club for example. Every club must have a teacher but only as a superintendent.

Sometimes the clubs organize discos or other events.   The physical education is very important for the Americans. Each High School has their own football, basketball and baseball team for example. These teams are usually very good because only the best can be in the team. The members train every day after school and there are regular matches with other schools which are very important for the image of the whole school.   Finally I'd like to talk about the differences of a German School to an American High School: The school life in America is busier than in Germany, because American pupils write sometimes up to 7 tests in one week and up to 3 tests per subject and per month and the pupils in America get a lot of homework every day; German pupils don't get homework all day and often not so much.

.   Conclude: So that was my presentation. It was very interesting for me to make it and to search for details. And maybe in a few years I will to go to America as an Au-pair and see this by myself. I hope the presentation was very interesting and entertaining for you. Thanks for your attention!
